Evocation — Manipulation¶
Manipulation is the Evocation Method concerned with applying directed force without visible wind. Often mistaken for telekinesis, but always mediated by air pressure. It requires focus and fine control.
Threads (Manipulation)¶
- Manipulate — moves or holds objects through directed force.
- Wrestle — uses hardened air to restrain or hinder movement.
- Warp — twists or stresses materials through uneven pressure.
Base Ka Cost (Manipulation)¶
| Effect | Example | Base Ka |
|---|---|---|
| Light object | Handheld item, unlock a latch, retrieve a dropped tool | 1 |
| Moderate object or person | Off-balance a person, move furniture | 2 |
| Heavy object or resisting person (Wrestle) | Restrain a struggling target, shift a boulder | 4 |
| Massive object or structure (Warp) | Buckle a door, twist metal, distort stonework | 7 |
Duration¶
| Duration | Modifier |
|---|---|
| Instant (single manipulation) | +0 |
| Sustained hold (active Channeling) | Ka paid per interval |
| One scene | +2 Ka |
Channeling Difficulty (Manipulation)¶
Modifiers: - Inanimate, non-resisting object: +0 - Resisting or struggling target (Wrestle): +2 - Precise or delicate manipulation: +2 - Structural material (Warp): +4
Force and Impact¶
Manipulation used to restrain, hurl, or crush follows Evocation#Ka and Force — Ka spent becomes Evocation Force. Purely utility use (unlocking, holding a door, retrieving an item) never requires an Impact roll.
Burn¶
Burn may be taken to: - hold a struggling target or object for one more exchange past your limit - force a Warp through resistant material - prevent a held object or target from breaking free
Design Notes¶
- Manipulation is Evocation's most precise Method — where Wind is broad and blunt, Manipulation is narrow and deliberate.
- Wrestle competes directly with physical grappling; it should feel like an alternative, not a strictly better option.
