Logomancy — Unmaking¶
Unmaking is the Logomancy Method concerned with undoing what other magic has done. Ritual phrases end illusions, curses, and bindings — a last-resort power, rarely used lightly.
Threads (Unmaking)¶
- Unravel — weaken or end an active working.
- Break the Curse — remove a curse or binding from a person or object.
- Silence the Working — suppress an enchantment temporarily.
Base Ka Cost (Unmaking)¶
| Target | Effect | Base Ka |
|---|---|---|
| Minor working | A small illusion or simple charm | 2 |
| Established working | A curse, binding, or sustained illusion | 5 |
| Entrenched working | Old, layered, or deliberately hidden magic | 8 |
| Foundational working | A working tied to someone's identity, soul, or a place's nature | 12+ |
Channeling Difficulty (Unmaking)¶
Modifiers: - Working is understood or identified: +0 - Working is unfamiliar or from a foreign tradition: +2 - Working is actively maintained or defended by its caster: +4 - Working is bound to something living: +2 additional
Duration¶
Silence the Working is temporary by nature and requires active Channeling to maintain — it suppresses rather than removes. Unravel and Break the Curse are one-time attempts: they succeed, fail, or partially succeed, but are not sustained.
Burn¶
Burn may be taken to: - force an Unmaking through active resistance from the working's caster - unravel a working instantly instead of gradually - push through when the working proves stronger than expected
Failure¶
Unmaking does not fail quietly. A botched attempt can unravel more than intended — damaging the object, place, or person the working was attached to, not just the magic itself. This is the most common way an Unmaking Word causes harm nobody meant to cause.
Design Notes¶
- Unmaking cannot create, heal, or improve — it only removes. It is not a substitute for Vitalis or Glamour's own remedies.
- The deeper the working is entrenched, the more Unmaking behaves like surgery than like a light switch: precise, risky, and not guaranteed clean.
