Evocation — Pressure¶
Pressure is the Evocation Method concerned with altering air density and force. It is subtle, dangerous, and often lethal. Pressure does not create energy — it redistributes it.
Threads (Pressure)¶
- Barrier — hardens air into a resisting surface.
- Vacuum — removes breathable air and induces suffocation.
- Bubble — isolates and refreshes a pocket of air.
Base Ka Cost (Pressure)¶
| Thread | Effect | Base Ka |
|---|---|---|
| Barrier | Hardened air panel — stops a single strike or blocks a doorway | 2 |
| Bubble | Small pocket of breathable air, one person | 2 |
| Vacuum | Localized vacuum on a single target — begins suffocation | 5 |
Scale¶
| Scope | Ka Modifier | TD Modifier |
|---|---|---|
| Single target or point | +0 | +0 |
| Small group / room-sized | +3 | +3 |
| Structural / area-wide | +6 | +6 |
Duration¶
| Duration | Modifier |
|---|---|
| Instant / single use | +0 |
| One scene | +2 Ka |
| Sustained (active Channeling) | Ka paid per interval |
| Persistent | Enchanting required |
Channeling Difficulty (Pressure)¶
Modifiers: - Small, contained space: +0 - Open air, nothing to anchor against: +2 - Resisting or moving target: +2 - Sustaining a large or structural effect: +4
Vacuum and Harm¶
Vacuum does not resolve as a single Impact roll. Each interval of continued suffocation, the target suffers escalating Impact (Strain, then Impact 1, then Impact 2, and so on) until freed or the effect ends. A target may hold their breath briefly to delay onset, at GM discretion.
Force and Impact¶
Barrier used to block a blow, or Vacuum used to harm directly, follows Evocation#Ka and Force — Ka spent becomes Evocation Force. Bubble is purely protective and never requires an Impact roll.
Burn¶
Burn may be taken to: - prevent a Barrier or Bubble from collapsing when overloaded - force a Vacuum past resistance for one interval - stabilize a pocket of pressure through violent movement
Failure¶
Pressure effects fail by collapse, not explosion — a Barrier cracks, a Bubble ruptures, a Vacuum equalizes suddenly. A failed Vacuum or Barrier under strain can still cause harm to those nearby as pressure re-balances.
